Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) at a conference in Luxembourg shared their experience of building shelters for those forced to leave their homes due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian Red Cross Society took part in the scientific conference Innovation in Humanitarian Habitat, held in Luxembourg... Representatives of the Recovery Department and the Emergency Response Department of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, thanks to the support of the Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise (Luxembourg Red Cross) ... joined the discussion panels and shared their experience in the construction and arrangement of comfortable shelters for internally displaced persons, mothers with children, large families who left their homes, saving lives," the URCS reported on Tuesday on Facebook.

At the conference, humanitarian professionals, builders, engineers, architects and students discussed how to meet the housing needs of the most vulnerable segments of the population.

The Recovery direction appeared in the URCS activities after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022, when there was a need for temporary housing and shelters for people fleeing the war.

During this time, a mother and child center was created in Lviv with 100 beds for pregnant women and women with children, which was nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2024, rehabilitation centers were reconstructed in Lviv and Liutizh (Kyiv region), shelters were built for the population in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zakarpattia and Zhytomyr regions, provided with generators, and water purification stations for the community.
