Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance could accelerate the end of russia’s war against Ukraine, but today there is no clear consensus on the issue of membership.

This was stressed by Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the EU Integration of Ukraine, at a special event of the Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

The parliamentarian emphasized that it is important for Ukraine today to have a decision on the invitation to NATO and a certain format of engagement.

“This requires unity. But today we see no unity, no vision of fast movement, no fast-track, no clear definition of how to implement this process. What we see, though, is American leadership in its efforts to create cohesion around the final decision on inviting Ukraine to join NATO,” she said.

In her opinion, the work of developing the Atlantic Council address to the President of the United States is an important component of this process.

“The important thing is that our friends have finally formulated the idea that supporting Ukraine should continue not “as long as needed”, but “as long as needed for Ukraine to win and russia to lose”. It is important that we all understand well what we strive for and what the result should be of the defensive war we wage on our land. And this brings me to the answer to the question, “why is it important right now”, - said the parliamentarian.

She also emphasized that the Atlantic Council address includes a separate section discussing the need for armaments and weapons.

“At all diplomatic meetings I emphasize the need to increase quantity, quality and timing of weaponry supply to Ukraine, I repeat this at every opportune moment. And this is well reflected in your document. Any military commander must have all the necessary resources at hand when planning a successful military operation. This is of utmost importance. Our military do not have enough weapons, and this prevents their effective planning a counteroffensive or air defenses,” Klympush-Tsintsadze said.

The Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation, is the main platform in this country for discussing issues of war and peace, national and global security.
