Mayor of Mariupol urges Western countries to impose embargo on Russian oil, gas
Mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boichenko called on EU countries to strengthen sanctions against Russia, in particular, to impose a complete embargo on Russian oil and gas in order to stop the genocide of Ukrainians.
"Today, it is important that Russia's war crimes be recorded by international human rights institutions. European countries must respond to crimes against humanity, against the Ukrainian people. These facts should become an impetus for strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation. Including, for a complete embargo on Russian oil and gas. Together we must stop military aggression and the genocide of Ukrainians," Boichenko said during a round table on Wednesday, quoted by the press service of the Mariupol City Council.
According to the mayor, Mariupol, which was recently a symbol of development, is now almost completely destroyed by the Russian occupiers: more than 90% of the city's infrastructure has been destroyed, of which at least 40% can no longer be restored.
Boichenko also said that at present the city council has already created a commission that fixes the facts of destruction of communal and private property. To date, more than 300 such facts have been detected. However, the main crime is thousands of killed Mariupol civilians.
"Just according to preliminary estimates, 5,000 people died in Mariupol during the month of the blockade, of which approximately 210 were children. Russian terrorist troops dropped several super-powerful bombs on a children's hospital, destroyed one of the buildings of the city hospital No. 1. Almost 50 people burned alive. The Drama Theater was bombed, where by that time more than 900 people were hiding from shelling. These are just a few examples of the targeted demolition of civilian population of Mariupol," Boichenko said.
