All-Ukrainian Council of Churches calls on world community to recognize actions of Russia in Ukraine as genocide of Ukrainian people
The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations calls on the international community to recognize the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine, in particular, in the settlements of Kyiv region, as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
"The whole of Ukraine and the whole world were horrified by the numerous facts of the bullying and inhuman cruelty that Russian soldiers committed against innocent civilians in the captured cities of Kyiv region. A month of temporary occupation by Russian troops of Bucha, Irpen, Hostomel and the surrounding villages has led not only to large-scale destruction of beautiful new residential areas, playgrounds, hospitals and other social institutions, but also to the total annihilation of the civilian population of this region," an official statement from the Council, released on Wednesday, says.
It notes that "such a terrible bloody trail of Russian invaders on Ukrainian lands, as well as support for their misanthropic actions by their mothers, wives and the general public in Russia, is evidence of a complete distortion of the worldview and moral degradation of Russian society."
"The war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine are a convincing argument in favor of comprehensive, with no exception sanctions against the Russian economy in all its sectors, and should finally encourage world leaders, NATO and the EU to provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons to defeat Russia as a terrorist state, including air defenses, fighter planes, lethal offensive weapons, tanks and anti-ship missiles.
The Council notes that the whole world must realize that this is "not a Ukrainian crisis, this is not even a war of Russia against Ukraine - this is a war of humanity, moral values, virtue with concentrated evil, which has a satanic fascist nature."
"The cult of war and chauvinism have been glorified for decades in Russian society, which worshiped war, built a temple for it in Moscow, and justifies new sacrifices to its bloody idol with the slogan 'We can repeat," the statement said.
They add that every state in the world "now cannot be silent."
"Every state in the world must recognize the genocide of the Ukrainian people during the Russian invasion in 2022 and condemn the ideology of the 'Russian World' as justifying the genocide of peoples and the destruction of entire states," the Council says.
