Ukraine asks ICRC head to offer Russia to start talks on transferring dead bodies to Russia – Vereschuk

Ukraine has appealed to the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to offer Russia to start negotiations on the transfer of dead bodies to it, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereschuk has said.

"Today, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer. During this meeting, we raised the issue of the need to organize the collection and identification of the bodies of dead Russian servicemen. We drew the attention of the Red Cross that Russia has not yet applied for the extradition of the bodies and remains of its dead servicemen, the number of which has long exceeded 14,000 people," Vereschuk said at a briefing on Thursday evening.

She added that the Ukrainian side turned to Maurer to suggest that Russia "show respect for its dead soldiers and start negotiations to take them from the territory of Ukraine."
