IAEA no longer receives remote data from monitoring systems at Chornobyl NPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated that remote data transmission from the safeguards control systems installed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been lost.

"The [IAEA] Director General also indicated that remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems installed at the Chornobyl NPP had been lost," the IAEA said on its website on Tuesday.

At the same time, the agency said that it is looking into the status of safeguards monitoring systems in other locations in Ukraine and will provide further information soon.

At the same time, Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, also announced the loss of communication with the Chornobyl safeguards monitoring system.

"The IAEA unexpectedly lost contact with the Chornobyl safeguards monitoring system. At the moment, no one understands what is happening in Chornobyl and what threatens the region. An extremely dangerous situation," he wrote on Wednesday morning on his Twitter.
