The Japanese government will freeze the assets of four more Russian banks in response to aggression in Ukraine, Japanese media reported citing Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki.

Suzuki told reporters that Japan supports the EU's decision.

According to him, among the four banks whose assets will be frozen are VTB Bank, Otkritie Bank, Sovcombank and Novikombank.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the restriction will come into force early April.

Earlier, Tokyo had already frozen the assets of three other Russian banks – Rossiya, Promsvyazbank and VEB.RF.

A day earlier, the European Union announced that its members had agreed to disconnect seven Russian banks from the key international payment network SWIFT.
