Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office has notified ex-Berkut riot police officer in Lviv region about suspicion he illegally used "special substances" against Automaidan protesters.

The PGO's press service on Tuesday said the Berkut officer and other police on January 19, 2014 in Kyiv exceeded their authority in an altercation involving Automaidan protesters, who had driven to disgraced ex-Presisdent Viktor Yanukovych's residence outside of Kyiv.

The PGO is asking the court to remand the officer to home arrest pending trial. His is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 365 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
