Journalist killed in grenade explosion in car in Kyiv

Journalist Vitaliy Kuksa, aged 45, who had worked in the combat zone in Donbas, was killed in an explosion of a car in Kyiv on April 27, the TSN television channel said on its website citing its sources.

Kuksa had previously worked a signal operator in Donbas and extensively covered military issues, the television channel said. He published his articles in Ukrainian media and worked as the head of the public and media relations department in the Ukrainian State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection. He was officially unemployed at the moment of the explosion.

In addition, Andriy Seroshtan, aged 24, was killed in the explosion as well, the TV channel said. He was also officially unemployed, it said. He was driving the car, it said, citing sources.

Sources told the television channel that the grenade exploded in Kuksa's hands and the grenade's firing pin was found in the car. According to sources, the incident was caused by a family conflict.
