Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan plans to initiate the implementation of a requirement, according to which if funds allocated from the state road fund for financing of the road sector are not used for two years, they will be returned to the fund.

"I want to appeal to the leaders of the regional administrations. In the conditions of decentralized roads and application of transparency standards to local roads the trust of citizens and businesses is an extremely important step," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

According to the minister, this year the regions will receive more than UAH 11 billion from the Road Fund, and in other areas of budget financing this figure will be much higher.

"It is very important for us that these roads are built and this money does not stay on the accounts. This week after the meeting with Ukravtodor I want to initiate a question to the government and the Verkhovna Rada that in case of failure to use within two years the funds received as a result of decentralization at the regional level, they are returning to the Road Fund," he said.
