Forensic audio expertise confirms authenticity of recorded voices of Saakashvili, Kurchenko

Head of Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office Yuriy Lutsenko has said forensic audio expertise has confirmed the authenticity of voices belonging to ex-Georgia President and Movement of New Forces party leader Mikheil Saakshvili and fugitive Ukrainian businessman Serhiy Kurchenko, who is hiding from Ukrainian police in Russia.

"The investigation continues, and it is complicated. The first signal is in: expertise shows voices of recordings of conversations between Saakshvili and Kurchenko are authentic and belong to both men, respectively. What will happen next depends on investigators, prosecutors and the courts," Lutsenko told Deutsche Welle in an interview published on Tuesday.

As earlier reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during the summer of 2017 stripped Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship. Saakashvili nonetheless returned to Ukraine and organized several anti-government protests.

Lutsenko has said Kurchenko helped fund demonstrations organized by Saakashvili, who denies the charges.
