Court releases Shufrych Jr. to father's custody

Kyiv's Shevchenkovsky District Court on Wednesday released the son of Ukranian Verkhovna Rada deputy Nestor Shufrych. Nestor Shufrych Jr. is accused of running over a pedestrian in the center of Kyiv on August 26.

Prosecutors asked the court to remand Shufrych Jr. to 24/7 house arrest, although the court judge did not find grounds to grant the request.

"To remand to the personal custody [of MP Shufrych]," the judge ruled.

As earlier reported, Nestor Shufrych Jr. was the driver of a leased Bentley that collided with the victim. His passenger was rap musician Pabl.A.

The victim was identified as a 31-year old man, who suffered two broken legs, a dislocated shoulder and various head injuries.

Nestor Shufrych Jr. did not flee the scene of the accident and cooperated with police, who said he was not driving under the influence of alcohol.

Witnesses said Nestor Shufrych Jr. was behind the wheel of the auto when the accident took place, but later moved to the passenger seat.
