Court rules to extend detention of MP Shufrych until Dec 15

Kyiv's Pechersky District Court ruled to extend the detention of Member of Parliament Nestor Shufrych, who is suspected of high treason, until December 15, Suspilne has reported.

"Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has ruled to extend the detention of Nestor Shufrych, an MP from the banned Opposition Platform - For Life party, until December 15. The extension of the measure of restraint was requested by the prosecutor," it said on Friday.

The defense lawyers asked the court for an alternative measure of restraint not connected with detention. However, after the decision was announced, they announced their intention to appeal against it.

As reported, on September 15, Pechersky District Court of Kyiv chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for 60 days for MP Nestor Shufrych without the right to post bail. The Court of Appeals upheld this decision.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), collected a reasoned evidence base for the anti-Ukrainian activities of Shufrych. Based on materials from the SBU, he was notified of suspicion under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason).
