MPs from Opposition Bloc to post bail for Dobkin – Novinsky

Verkhovna Rada's members from the Opposition Bloc faction are ready to raise the necessary funds to stand bail for their party fellow Mykhailo Dobkin, his faction counterpart Vadym Novinsky has said.

"I, and all the rest of our team, will help our friend and colleague to get out of this situation, so that he will not spend one minute in custody in the pretrial detention centre. We will do everything possible to this end. And just the next week, it will become known how much money each of us will contribute to this noble matter," the press service of the Opposition Bloc quoted Novinsky as saying on Saturday.

Commenting on the decision of Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, which on Saturday chose a preventive measure for Dobkin in the form of custody for a period of two months with an alternative of standing a bail in the amount of UAH 50 million. The politician said he did not agree with it, since he believes that it was enough to provide bail for Dobkin.

"We said that all 42 MPs from the Opposition Bloc faction were ready to provide a bail, but the court did not accept these arguments as well as the fact that Dobkin handed all his passports, and was not going to flee the country and was ready to cooperate with the investigation," Novinsky said.

As earlier reported, on July 13, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine backed three requests submitted by Prosecutor General Lutsenko about giving its consent to the prosecution, detention and arrest of Opposition Bloc MP Mykhailo Dobkin.

On Friday, the Prosecutor General's Office handed Dobkin a suspicion of fraud and abuse of authority. The MP told journalists that he handed all his passports to the investigator and didn't intend to leave Ukraine, but stressed that his movement in Ukraine is not limited. He also said that he didn't intend to stand bail for himself if the court assigns too large sum of money as an alternative to arrest.
