Moscow court sentences Dadayev found guilty of killing Nemtsov to 20 years in prison

The Moscow District Military Court has sentenced Zaur Dadayev, whom the jury earlier found guilty of killing opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, to 20 years in prison, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.

Judge Yury Zhitnikov ruled in court on Thursday "to impose a final penalty on Dadayev in the form of 20 years of imprisonment."

Dadayev is supposed to serve his term in a high-security penitentiary.

The court stripped Dadayev of his military rank of lieutenant and the Order of Courage.

The court classified the defendant's deed as a contract killing for financial gain and illegal circulation of weapons by an organized group.

The court gave Dadayev 17 years' imprisonment for murder and seven years in prison for illegal circulation of weapons.

The court also fined Dadayev 100,000 rubles and found no reasons to restrict his freedom after he serves his prison term.

The jury ruled on June 29 to find all five defendants in the criminal case dealing with Nemtsov's assassination guilty and not deserving lenience. In particular, Dadayev was found guilty of firing shots at Nemtsov on Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in central Moscow, which led to the politician's death.

Nemtsov was killed on Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in direct proximity to the Kremlin on February 27, 2015.
