Another format necessary in case of Minsk 2 failure including other counties, Crimean issue

Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Pieklo has said that Poland and the U.S. could enter a negotiations format, an alternative to the Minsk process, which would also deal with the issue of Crimea.

"Now we have the Minsk Agreements, and all countries should honor their commitments according to these agreements, but if the Minsk Agreements do not work, then it is necessary to think about the new format, possibly, with the involvement of the U.S.," Pieklo said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He expressed belief that it is impossible to solve the conflict in Donbas without neighboring countries such as Poland. "It would be quite natural if Poland could join the new format," the ambassador said.

Pieklo also considers it to be essential that the new negotiations process would include the issue of Crimea. "The problem of 'Minsk' is that it applies to Donbas only, but not to Crimea. Crimea should be next," the Polish diplomat said.
