Ukraine imposes sanctions against some Russian and Crimean coal companies

Ukraine has imposed sanctions against a number of Russian and Crimean companies involved in coal transportation, handling and sales.

The corresponding decision is stipulated in the resolution of National Security and Defense Council dated September 16, 2016 and presidential decree No. 467/2016.

"The basis for applying sanctions is the actions of the legal entity, creating real or potential threats to the national interests of Ukraine," the document says.

Some companies mentioned in the decree were earlier accused by the SBU of formalizing coal illegally exported from Donbas to Russia.

The list of the companies that were applied the sanctions is as follows: South-Eastern Fuel Company (Kazan, Russia), OJSC Rostovtopprom (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) and the sales offices of the company, Coal Alliance LLC, Businesstranslogistic, Uglerod ore mining and processing mill, Donalliance (all based in Rostov region, the Russian Federation), Binom D LLC, Monolit Impex and Servis Postavok (all based in Taganrog, Russia), Chermetresurs LLC (Moscow region), and Port Mechel Temryuk (Krasnodar region, Russia).

The list also includes the Crimean enterprises Donsevugol and GEN Invest (Kamysh-Burunsky port).
