Taruta, Tymoshenko insist on Gontareva's dismissal – Poroshenko Bloc MP

1 min read

Calls of the Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko and MP Serhiy Taruta to dismiss governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriya Gontareva are connected to their own financial interests in the banking sector, MP Tetiana Rychkova of the Poroshenko Bloc faction has said.

"The fact that Tymoshenko and Taruta simultaneously called for Gontareva's resignation is no surprise. Both share a long history of cooperation, where Taruta, as a businessman, was Yulia Vododymyrivna's [Tymoshenko] sponsor. The reason for their joint attack may be only that Gontareva, while restoring the banking system, hurt the interests of financial institutions that are behind Tymoshenko and Taruta," Rychkova wrote on her Facebook page.

The problem of borrowers in foreign currency arose at the time when Tymoshenko headed the Cabinet, the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party's press service said. That's when the exchange rate fell from UAH 5 per $1 to UAH 8 per $1. Prime Minister Tymoshenko then "had no desire to compensate for losses to people," the MP said.

According to Rychkova, Tymoshenko's concern about foreign currency borrowing is "play-acting."
