Information Policy minister says possible ATR channel move to Lithuania unacceptable

Ukrainian Information Policy Minister Yuriy Stets considers possible relocation of the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR to Lithuania unacceptable and intends to raise the issue of implementation of the decision by the Cabinet of Ministers on allocating resources for the channel at the next cabinet meeting.

"The issue is still thick in the air, as the funding or the funds that the Cabinet of Ministers had to allocate for the ATR channel weren’t allocated until now. And there is a threat that the TV channel will be forced to work in one of the Baltic countries – Lithuania, and this is unacceptable," the minister said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to him, the Cabinet’s decision has not changed, and the decision on allocating funds to support the work of the channel needs to be implemented.

"We must provide the ATR with means. If some of my colleagues have questions about the problems associated with legal terminology, then Finance Minister Danyliuk should say where there are potential problems in the decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers, which may have legal collisions," the information policy minister said.

He said if there are legal problems in the government's decision on allocating funds to the channel, then the way out should be found and the ATR provided with these means.

Stets said that he intends to raise this issue at the next government meeting and asked Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko to help with the decision of potential legal problems concerning the implementation of the decision on the funds allocation for the ATR.
