Health ministry, government, lawmakers unblock supply of cancer drugs detained in Boryspil

Ukrainian Health Ministry, government and lawmakers have unblocked supply of cancer drugs bought by Britain's Crown Agents that had been detained at Boryspil airport for 92 days, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said at a briefing on Wednesday.

"We have managed to unblock the supply. In three or four days the drugs will start arriving to medical institutions," he said.

Acting Health Minister Ulana Suprun said that at present, the drugs are passing customs clearance. She said that the problem was misunderstanding between Crown Agents and Ukrainian distributor Lyudmila Pharm who is the owner of the drugs.

"We held a government meeting held for seven hours on Tuesday," she said.

Suprun said that Health Ministry would be more careful about the organization of supplies, drafting of contracts and transfer of drugs.

Parliametnary healthcare committee head Olha Bohomolets said that Prosecutor General's Office and SBU are to conduct an investigation and find those who are guilty in delays of supplies of drugs. She said that Crown Agents' mistake was that the international organization bought drugs from the Ukrainian distributor, but not directly from the manufacturer.
