Ukraine to lodge lawsuit against Russia over Mejlis ban within two weeks

First Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Natalia Sevostyanova has said that they already prepared a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights against Russia over the ban of the Mejlis, the highest ruling body of the Crimean Tatar people, the lawsuit will be sent within the next two weeks.

"The lawsuit against the ban on the Mejlis has been prepared... We will send it in a week or two," she said answering a question of Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Sevostyanova, they are still gathering more evidence to support the lawsuit.

"The lawsuit is very specific. In fact, it is ready to be filed any day, but we are still waiting for some evidence to reinforce it," Sevostyanova said.

"So, we may need a week or two before sending it," she said.

As reported, the so-called Crimea's Supreme Court on April 26 designated the Crimean Tatar Mejlis as an extremist entity and banned its activity in Russia, ruling in favor of a lawsuit filed by de facto prosecutor of Crimea Natalia Poklonskaya.
