Bill that bans citizens of aggressor state from running public posts submitted to parliament

A bill foreseeing a ban from running public posts for Ukrainian citizens who also have the passport of the aggressor country has been registered in the Ukrainian parliament, one of the authors of the bill MP Serhiy Alekseyev (Petro Poroshenko Bloc) has reported.

"We've registered a bill foreseeing the direct ban from running important public posts for persons who along with the Ukrainian passport have passports of the aggressor country. Running the post of the judge, lawmaker in town council or prosecutor, for example, the person could do large harm to the national interests of Ukraine," he said on Monday, commenting on bill No. 4113.

He said that now Ukrainian legislation does not recognize the legal consequences of dual citizenship. The persons who along with Ukrainian citizenship have citizenship of the aggressor state could be public servants, lawmakers of all levels, judges, law enforcement officers having access to secret information and sometimes to the national security information.

"Punishment in the form of imprisonment for the period of up to three years is foreseen for violation of the requirement," he said.
