Poroshenko hopes for resuming power supply to Crimea along one power line

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko hopes that electric power supplies to the Russian internal Republic of Crimea will be restored in the near future.

"As for the electric power supplies, you know that a crash took place, the repair works were conducted, after the crash serious difficulties have emerged for the energy supply to several southern regions of the country, namely the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions," the president said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels aired on Sunday evening.

He also said that he asked the government to address this issue and hoped that the problem would be settled in the near future.

"I asked the government to ensure the emergency energy regime due to power blackouts in Ukraine and due to the critical situation over coal supplies. The government has completely supported this stance, and I believe that emergency supplies along one line will be restored in the near future," he said.

He also said that Kyiv had not abandoned an idea to bring Crimea back to Ukraine. Poroshenko said that he would "do everything so that we will ensure the return of Crimea through courts and in the political and diplomatic way as a result of the drafted strategy and using international legal mechanisms."
