Two Ukrainians, four nationals of Southeast Asian countries on board helicopter which crashed in Slovakia

Two Ukrainians and four people from unidentified Southeast Asian countries were aboard the Mi-2 helicopter which crashed in Slovakia, the State Border Service reported on Friday.

"As a result of the search operations which have taken place today in the territory of Slovakia, a Mi-2 civilian helicopter was found 35 kilometers from the border. Two Ukrainian citizens, and four people from the countries of Southeast Asia, including two women, were on board the helicopter. This helicopter was likely used by criminals to transport illegal migrants. The circumstances of the accident are being clarified," the State Border Service of Ukraine said in a statement.

As reported, the Ukrainian border guard squad registered a flight of an unidentified aircraft in the early hours of November 11.

"At night on November 11 around 04:00, from the direction of the city of Uzhgorod (Ukraine) – and Vysne Nemecke (Slovakia) the border squad in conditions of poor visibility and hearing conditions heard the noise of an engine of an unidentified aircraft. This information was immediately passed to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Slovakian counterparts," the statement reads.

A search for a possible place of the takeoff and landing of the aircraft on both sides of the border was immediately organized.

Meanwhile, first secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy to Slovakia Ihor Krachkovsky said that five of the six people killed in the helicopter crash in eastern Slovakia may have been illegal migrants.

Earlier on Friday, Slovak media reported that a Ukrainian Soviet-made Mi-2 helicopter had crashed near the village of Stretavka in eastern Slovakia, ten kilometers from the country's border with Ukraine. Police found six bodies at the crash site.

In turn, spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladyslav Selezniov said that the helicopter which crashed on crashed on Wednesday in Slovakia does not belong to the Ukrainian army.
