'Normandy Four' foreign ministers may meet at UN General Assembly session to prepare Oct 2 meeting in Paris

The 'Normandy Four' foreign ministers will meet in Berlin on September 12 and may see each other again on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in late September to prepare a 'Normandy Four' summit due in Paris in early October, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"The October 2 meeting in Paris needs to be well prepared. The first meeting of the foreign ministers will be held [in Berlin] on September 12 to discuss the agenda and draft decisions we will be conferring on in Paris," he said at a press conference held within the 12th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in Kyiv on Friday.

Another meeting of the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany may be held "in one format or another" on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York in late September, Poroshenko said.

"I will do everything I can to prepare the 'Normandy format' meeting to the best possible standard so that it can produce the first sprouts of stabilization we are witnessing today, to make them more stable, for instance, to back the Ukrainian proposal to pull back artillery with a caliber under 100mm, mortars with a caliber under 120mm and tanks, in order to make stronger these first sprouts of stability," he said.
