Decentralization will bring Ukraine closer to victory – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko recently held a meeting to discuss amendments to the Constitution on decentralization with representatives of civil society, the presidential press service has reported.

Poroshenko agreed with the majority of those present at the meeting that it is essential to organize better communication within society regarding the substance of constitutional amendments.

"We must jointly explain to people that changes do not a pose threat, but [in fact] brings victory closer. We need peace in order to win. This is what should unite us," Poroshenko said on Wednesday, before urging those present to find the words that will help unite the nation.

Poroshenko said that according to recent sociological surveys, the lion's share of the population supports decentralization.

"We need the people's support. There will be no reforms without decentralization," Poroshenko stressed.

The discussion was attended by prominent cultural figures, scientists, lawyers, sociologists, members of the clergy, and social activists.
