The remains of 57 unknown servicemen of the Ukrainian armed forces killed in battles in Donbas in 2014, in clashes for Ilovaisk and Savur-Mohyla, have been buried in Zaporizhia.

The burial of 57 unknown soldiers took place at Kushuhumske cemetery in Zaporizhia, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

For one year the bodies were in refrigerators and during this time relatives of the deceased were looked for and DNA tests carried out, representatives of the Zaporizhia regional military commissariat said.

However, relatives of some deceased soldiers were not found. According to commissariat authorities, many relatives refuse to do DNA tests for identification purposes, "hoping until the end that their close ones, who went missing at front, are alive, in captivity or hospitals."

Some relatives, whose DNA results were a very close match to unidentified servicemen, refused to admit the results and undergo DNA retesting.

"People can be understood, hope dies last. The search for relatives of the deceased continues. Fifty unknown soldiers killed outside Ilovaisk were buried here last year, at Kushuhumske cemetery, and during this time 21 soldiers were identified and exhumed," Zaporizhia regional military commissioner Oleksandr Bida said.
