PGO's proposal to lift Kliuyev's deputy immunity is reasonable, legal - Shokin

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin claims that investigators have all the necessary evidence for the Verkhovna Rada's to deprive MP Serhiy Kliuyev of his deputy immunity.

"I am ready to confirm to the committee members the adequacy, legality and validity of the evidence as provided by the regulation [of the Verkhovna Rada]," Shokin said at a meeting of the committee on parliamentary procedures.

At the same time, he said consideration of this issue by the committee is procedural.

According to him, if the committee members want to receive detailed explanations on the validity of the prosecutor's submissions, it means transferring them to the level of pre-trial investigation.

Shokin noted that due to the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceedings continuing and "will continue for an indefinite period," there is the need for a committee to meet behind closed doors and giving written consent to keep the investigation secret.
