Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has reiterated the need for the deployment of a peacekeeping mission in Donbas.

During a meeting with President of Finland Sauli Niinisto in Aachen on Thursday, Poroshenko put an emphasis on Finland's experience of participation of the international peacekeeping operations, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.

"Sauli Niinisto has invited Petro Poroshenko to visit the Mannerheim Line at his convenience. The Ukrainian president for his part also invited the president of Finland to make a visit to Ukraine," the press service reported.

Poroshenko has obtained support of Finland in the issue of further consolidation of the EU's position on Ukraine, the press service said.

The two presidents also discussed the situation in Donbas and the progress of the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The Mannerheim Line was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland in the 1920s-1930s to protect it against the Soviet Union. It was a location of the largest fights during the Winter War between the Soviet Union and Finland in 1939–1940.
