Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stressed the importance of resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine peacefully in line with the Minsk agreements in his telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, the Ukrainian presidential press service said.

"We have put too much time and effort into the achievement to let them be discarded," Poroshenko said.

The president underlined "the significance of U.S. statements denying recognition to the November 2 elections in Donbas and condemning the ballot," the report noted.

He also proposed the resumption of the Geneva multilateral dialogue among foreign ministers for the promotion of peace in Donbas.

In turn, Kerry declared U.S. support for the Ukrainian president's honoring of the letter and the spirit of the Minsk protocol.

"Kerry congratulated Ukraine on the free and democratic election of the Verkhovna Rada on October 26 and praised the achievement of gas agreements in the Ukraine-EU-Russia format," the report said.

The parties also discussed the details of military and technical cooperation and the visit of U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden to Ukraine scheduled for November 21.
