Only airport survived in Donbas in Severodonetsk to be opened

The only survived airport in Donbas in Severodonetsk (Luhansk region) will be opened, the press service of the head of Luhansk Regional Administration has reported.

"Since the start of armed hostilities in Donbas the Luhansk international airport was seized by LPR [self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic], it was destroyed and it cannot be used. The Donetsk international airport built for Euro 2012 is under control of Ukrainian army today, and fierce fighting is going on for the airport, the runway and technical buildings are destroyed or strongly damaged," reads the report.

The regional administration said that the only survived airport in Donbas which could service regular domestic and international flights was left in Severodonetsk. It belongs to public joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz and it is not functioning.

Head of Luhansk Regional Administration Hennadiy Moskal has held talks with Board Chairman of Ukrtransgaz Ihor Prokopov on the transfer of the airport to the balance of the regional administration. The documents are being prepared in line with Ukrainian law. After the transfer of the airport the administration will take all measures to launch the Severodonetsk airport and perform regular flights, first of all, to Kyiv.
