Kyiv says military operation stepped up in eastern Ukraine

In response to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's decision to revoke a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, government forces have intensified their measures to "neutralize and eliminate illegal armed groups" in the area of the military operation, Kyiv's Information Resistance group coordinator Dmytro Tymchuk said on his Facebook account on Tuesday morning.

"Air and artillery strikes are being carried out against all sites where terrorists' strongholds and groups of terrorists are located," he said.

"The martial ardor and activity of illegal armed groups has nosedived," Tymchuk said.

Ukrainian government forces came under fire in Donetsk region last night, he said.

"Last night we registered that militants' snipers opened fire on the positions of anti-terrorist operation forces near the locality of Tarany [Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk region]. One serviceman was injured," Tymchuk said.
