Ukrainian consul in Moscow trying to meet with arrested film director Sentsov – ministry
The Ukrainian consul in Moscow is being prevented from meeting with the film director Oleh Sentsov arrested by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said.
"Our consul has so far been prevented from seeing him [Sentsov]. We have already sent very many requests for a meeting to be allowed with the consul," he said on the 112.Ukraine television channel on Friday.
The terrorism charges against Sentsov, Hennadiy Afanasyev, Oleksiy Chyrniy and Oleksandr Kolchenko are ludicrous, Perebyinis said.
"What they are being charged with is absolute absurdity... He [Sentsov] is a famous film director. The accusations that they are part of the Right Sector and were involved in terrorism are absolutely ludicrous," he said.
"We will, of course, be seeking their release," the diplomat said.
Sentsov was arrested by Russian law enforcement officers in Crimea on May 11. He is being charged with plotting a terrorist attack. It emerged on May 19 that he had been moved to a pre-trial detention center in Moscow.
