Proposals to introduce visas for Russians to be ready in next few days - Ukrainian Foreign Ministry

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is developing proposals to impose visa requirements on the Russian Federation, the ministry said.

"The Foreign Ministry is developing proposals over the realization of this matter and we'll be ready to submit them for government consideration over the next few days," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a Thursday briefing.

The decision by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to introduce visa requirements for Russia must be approved by the Ukrainian acting president before it takes effect, he said. At the same time, work over these proposals is already under way.

On March 19, NSDC Secretary Andriy Parubiy said after a Council session that the country's foreign ministry was instructed to introduce visa requirements for Russia.

On Thursday Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said the introduction of visas and switching to foreign-travel passports with Russia should not be rushed.

The prime minister made this statement upon arrival in Brussels where he is to sign the political part of an association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, his spokesperson said.
