Ukrainian Navy units in Crimea remain cut off

Ukrainian Navy units in Crimea remained cut off as of Wednesday morning as pro-Russian radicals turned off electricity and water supplies, and blocked entrances to military units, the press and information department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.

In Sevastopol, in a military unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, relatives of the servicemen blocked in the building tried to give them food.

"However, the 'protesters,' under the guise of armed Russian military, did not let in and used offensive language in relation to women and children of soldiers who brought food and personal hygiene items. Some people were not even allowed to approach the gate of the blocked building, but were even beaten," reads the statement.

In addition, in a telephone conversation with Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal, the captain of the Ukrainian Navy's Ternopil corvette, Maksym Yemelianenko, said that the ship had been completely cut off from the land.

"The waterways that were previously used to deliver food to the corvette staff have currently been blocked by unidentified armed men," the ministry said.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu earlier said there were no Russian troops in Crimea apart from those of the Black Sea Fleet.
