Protesters, police on Hrushevskoho Street agree on temporary truce at Klitschko's request

Protesters and police officers, at the request of UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko, have agreed on a "period of silence" until 2000 on Thursday, when, according to the politician, he will come to protesters again and report on the results of talks between opposition leaders and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the protesters had currently stopped throwing stones at law enforcers on Hrushevskoho Street.

Klitschko approached the barricade at the corner near 4 Hrushevskoho Street and called on the parties to stop the confrontation for the period of the negotiations.

"By eight o'clock I'll return to you and report on the negotiations [between the opposition and President Yanukovych]," he said.

Protesters and police agreed to a "period of silence" and a temporary truce. Both sides promised not to take action at the time of negotiations: "There will be no attacks until 2000," both sides declared.
