The European Union will sign an association agreement with Ukraine when Ukraine is ready for it, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said in Brussels on Friday following a European Council summit.

Rompuy said the people of Ukraine should make an independent decision on their future and decide about the signing of an association agreement with the EU.
