Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will on July 20 start inspections at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP), the NPP's press center reported on Friday.

The experts will be checking the correspondence of the NPP's design safety to IAEA standards.

The IAEA mission will be conducted until July 31 under a memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation in the energy sector between Ukraine and the European Union.

The mission includes ten IAEA experts, 13 representatives of design institutes and five interpreters.

Similar checks conducted by IAEA experts at Rivne and Yuzhnoukrainsk NPPs have shown that the power plants meet international safety standards. Zaporizhia NPP has already successfully hosted IAEA checks on operational safety, the press center said.

Zaporizhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of generating capacity.

Energoatom, Ukraine's nuclear power plant operator, runs the Zaporizhia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Rivne and Khmelnytsky NPPs, which have 15 reactors and a total generating capacity of 13,835 megawatts.
