Poland is optimistic about prospects of cooperation with Ukraine as an associated member of the European Union, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has said.

"I would like to say that we are optimistic about prospects of cooperation between Poland as an EU member state and Ukraine, which is to become an associated member of the EU," he said at a press conference in Krakow on Monday following a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych.

Komorowski stressed the strategic importance of Ukraine-Poland relations and added that active preparations are being held to ensure the success of the Eastern Partnership Summit due in Vilnius in November 2013.

"We've been working hard and, as it looks, fruitfully for the sake of the success of the Eastern Partnership Summit," he said.

According to Komorowski, at the Monday meeting the sides praised preparations for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

"We've discussed the elimination of the last obstacles for achieving success at the summit in Vilnius," the Polish president said.
