Azarov: Snow to melt in Kyiv for 10-15 days, city still seriously preparing for floods

The melting of snow in Kyiv will not be instantaneous, but last for 10-15 days, and the government is still preparing for floods, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"There are calming factors indicating that the melting of snow will not be instantaneous, because not very high temperatures are expected, with minus temperatures at night. Winter doesn't want to end. This helps ensure that there won't be such a dramatic warming that always leads to flooding. [The melting of snow] will last for 10-15 days in our city," he said on Monday at a meeting with social activists who participated in eliminating the aftermath of snowfall in Kyiv.

At the same time, he said that Kyiv was seriously preparing for floods.

"All possible technical measures are being taken and a lot of vehicles and over 70 pumping stations are being brought to Kyiv, and they are being installed where flooding of streets is possible," Azarov said.
