Court adjourns UESU case hearing until March 22

Kyivsky District Court of Kharkiv has ruled to send another request to jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko regarding a possibility of her participation in the court hearing of the criminal case on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation via a video linkup.

"[The court rules] to send a request to Tymoshenko to Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 on the possibility of her participation in the court hearing via a video linkup," reads the ruling that was read aloud by Judge Kostiantyn Sadovsky.

The court also decided that it was impossible to consider the case in the absence of the defendant and her defense team.

The court adjourned the hearing of the UESU case until 1000 on March 22.

A preliminary hearing of the UESU case was to be held on April 19, 2012. The former prime minister has not attended a single court session.

Charges were brought against Tymoshenko under the UESU case on five counts.

On October 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office when signing gas contracts with Russia in 2009. She has served her prison term in Kachanivska Penal Colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011.

Tymoshenko is currently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital in Kharkiv. The tactics and medical treatment of the ex-premier are determined by German doctors from Charite Hospital (Berlin).
