Lutkovska says she is not planning to resign due to criticism from opposition

Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska has said that she is not planning to resign because of the opposition's proposal to check cases of human rights violations and raise the question of the resignation of the ombudsperson.

When asked live on Channel 5 late on Thursday whether she thinks she should resign because of criticism from the opposition, Lutkovska said: "No, I don't think so."

At the same time, she added: "As far as I understood, the criticism from the opposition concerned the issue of my reaction to the protection of the rights of certain opposition members, but my mandate envisages the protection of the rights of 46 million Ukrainians."

In addition, due to the opposition's intention to create a parliamentary investigative commission, Lutkovska said that she was ready to "open her activity" for MPs.

"I'm ready to open my activity in the same way as we opened it to the public, the media, and people's deputies," she said.

As reported, Batkivschyna faction MP Oleksandra Kuzhel, while speaking on Thursday at a meeting of opposition MPs in parliament, proposed creating a parliamentary investigative commission to check the cases of human rights violations and raise the question of Lutkovska's resignation as Ukrainian ombudsperson.
