Ukraine's opposition to demand introduction of personal voting, dismissal of speaker, prosecutor general - statement

Ukraine's opposition lawmakers have passed a joint statement in which they state that they intend to demand the introduction of personal voting and the dismissal of Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak and Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka.

"We will explore every opportunity of parliamentary struggle, including blocking the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, to ensure the observance of the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine concerning personal voting by Ukrainian MPs," reads the statement by Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ruslan Koshulynsky on Thursday.

"We also express no-confidence in Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak and want to launch the procedure of the dismissal of Volodymyr Rybak from the post for poor performance of his duties and gross violations of the Constitution of Ukraine," the opposition said in a statement.

"[We intend] to pass a no-confidence motion in Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka, heads of law enforcement agencies, which conduct political repressions in Ukraine," the document says.

Members of the parliamentary factions of the UDAR Party, the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union, the Batkivschyna party also demanded the immediate release of political prisoners - former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, as well as ensuring they are given the proper medical treatment.

The opposition MPs also decided to inform the ambassadors of foreign states, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the EU about "the government's actions aimed at curtailing democracy and launching a new wave of political repression."
