Prosecutors generally pleased with court verdict on Pukach case
The judgment by Kyiv's Pechersky District Court in the case of Oleksiy Pukach is the one requested by prosecutors, although there are some differences, the public prosecutor in the case, Volodymyr Shylov, has said.
"There are some individual differences between what we offered and what was adopted by the court," he told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
He also noted that the announcement of the verdict against Pukach in the open regime for the media mode would serve as prevention for law enforcers to prevent violations of the law.
As reported, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court on Tuesday sentenced the former chief of the Interior Ministry's external surveillance department, Pukach, to life in prison for killing journalist Georgy Gongadze.
The court also ruled to deprive Pukach of the rank of lieutenant general, as well as obliged him to pay UAH 500,000 to Myroslava Gongadze, the wife of murdered journalist Gongadze, and UAH 100,000 to journalist Oleksiy Podolsky for moral damages.
