Yanukovych: 2013 budget will be budget of survival
Ukraine's national budget for 2013 will be budget of survival and require strict economy, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"The demand of the rational use of budget assets in 2013 is apparent. The budget for the next year of 2013 approved in December cannot suit anyone. Its main objective is to prevent the deterioration of social security in conditions of a complex economic situation," he said during a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said that the national budget will have to be revised based on first quarter results.
The president is waiting for the government to come up with concrete proposals on establishing control over the use of budget funds.
"We should treasure every hryvnia in the budget… It will be a budget of survival. And if development, then only on the basis of a general economy drive," he stressed.
He noted that in 2013 payments on foreign state debts in the amount of $9 billion are due, which makes the budget situation even more complex.
"We expect the deepening of cooperation with international financial institutions - the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank," he said.
