Georgia, Ukraine should belong to European family, says Saakashvili

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has said that his country is undergoing a difficult period after the parliamentary elections, but he said he is sure that it will not deviate from the chosen path of reform.

"Complicated things are currently happening in Georgia. They try to blame the reformers. Criminal cases were launched against them. I cannot interfere in the judicial process," he said at the Kyiv Post Tiger Conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"But when people vote in an election, they want more. They believe that things will change at the snap of a finger or the wave of a wand," the Georgian president said.

Saakashvili said there was no way back from the chosen path for both the Georgian and Ukrainian societies.

"We should belong to the European family. Europe will never be complete until Ukraine becomes a part of it. Hopefully, we will also be able to do this," he said.
