Tymoshenko's diagnosis based on medical examination, says German doctor

The diagnosis of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is based on the results of medical examinations, and the ex-premier was unable to influence them, Chief of German Charite Clinic Karl Max Einhaupl has said.

"There is an organic disease. We have a diagnosis based on brain tomography. In addition, we have a diagnosis by neurologists, and we also carried out electrical measurement of nerve function. The patient was unable to influence all these aspects deliberately," the doctor told journalists at Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv, while commenting on previous reports based on an interview with Tymoshenko's former cell mate, who said that the ex-premier pretended to have problems with health.

Earlier, some media published an interview with Tymoshenko's former cell mate, Yulia Abaplova, who described the ex-premier's complaints about health problems as "acting."

"During the time we spent together Tymoshenko regularly complained to everyone, who came to visit her, about her health state. However, she did physical exercises in the bathroom. She asked for a chair to be brought there, filled plastic bottles with water and did exercises. She used to say that she could not sit and then spent four to five hours sitting at the kitchen table while writing or reading something," Abaplova said.

She also said that the ex-premier complained she was suffering from back pain, but despite this still wore high-heeled shoes.

In turn, Tymoshenko's defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko stated that he had direct evidence that Abaplova was forced to give the video interview.

Later on, a photocopy of a letter said to be written by Abaplova was posted on Tymoshenko's Web site. According to Vlasenko, the letter was dated March 25, 2012 and written personally by Abaplova "to protect herself and Tymoshenko."

In particular, the letter reads that "an active process of discrediting Tymoshenko has started recently."

"They will simply kill her here, I know this, I can see and hear everything. They are panicking [before the hearing at the European Court of Human Rights], they're afraid that she may be released," reads the letter.

The letter also reads that [they constantly distort] Tymoshenko's statements about her health condition.
