Cabinet initiates allocation over UAH 50 m for National Academy of Sciences

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved a bill on a proposal to allocate an extra UAH 50.815 million to finance the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

According to the press service of the Finance Ministry of Ukraine, this proposal is described in a bill approved by parliament on amendments to the Ukrainian law "On the state budget of Ukraine 2012."

"In particular, the bill foresees additional financing of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2012 under a budget program entitled "Fundamental research, applied scientific and scientific and technical elaborations, conducting tasks according to state targeted programs and state orders, preparation of the scientific staff, financial support of the development of the scientific infrastructure and scientific facilities of the national patrimony" to pay UAH 50.816 million to the employees of the scientific and research establishments," the press release read.

The adoption of the bill will provide salaries to the employees of the scientific and research establishments and organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, will reinforce the social protection of citizens and growth of the population's wellbeing.

Chairman of the Trade Union of the National Academy of Sciences, Anatoliy Shyrokov, reported that the trade union insists on the meeting with Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov and satisfaction all their demands, otherwise, promises to start protests. The trade union demands to envisage in the state budget 2013 a budget inquire of the National Academy of Sciences for the expense of the common fund worth a total of UAH 3.7 billion, Shyrokov explained. The trade union also demands to foresee expenses worth a total of UAH 2.43 billion for the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for paying salaries to scientific staff.
