Sixth IRIS-T air defense system, launchers for Patriot to be delivered to Ukraine in Dec – Scholz
Germany will deliver the sixth IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine, as well as launchers for the Patriot system in December of this year, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
"Support for air defense remains central to us. We have already delivered five IRIS-T systems, three Patriots, more than 50 Gepards.... And we want the military assistance we provide, including in the area of air defense and military assistance, to be exactly that. The sixth IRIS-T system will be delivered in December, as well as launchers for the Patriot," Scholz said at a press conference in Kyiv following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Scholz also stressed that Germany is unwavering in its support for Ukraine and will not reduce its assistance. He added that Russia's shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure is "unacceptable," which is why Germany has provided Ukraine with urgent winter support.
The German Chancellor said the total amount of aid provided by Germany to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion is about EUR 28 billion. In particular, five complete IRIS-T sets, three Patriot systems, more than 50 Gepard anti-aircraft mounts with missiles, shells and spare parts have been transferred to strengthen the air defense.
"In 2025, we will also supply air defense systems, howitzers, combat and reconnaissance drones. In addition, six armed Sea King helicopters. I say this very clearly to Putin here in Kyiv today: we do not get tired. And we will support Ukraine as long as it is needed," Scholz said.
