EU plans to provide EUR 1.5 bln to Ukraine monthly starting Jan 2025 – European Council President
The European Union will allocate an additional EUR 4.2 billion to Ukraine's budget in December of this year. Starting in January 2025, the EU plans to provide EUR 1.5 billion in monthly aid, European Council President António Costa stated.
"This month, the European Union will provide Ukraine with an additional EUR 4.2 billion for budgetary support. Additionally, starting next month, we plan to deliver EUR 1.5 billion in monthly aid throughout the year," Costa said at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday after his meeting with President Zelenskyy.
Costa clarified that these funds "come from revenue generated by Russian assets and may also be used for military purposes."
Furthermore, the EU is preparing its 15th sanctions package against "Putin's regime."
Costa also noted that the EU and Ukraine would work together to open "at least two negotiation clusters on European integration" during the first half of the coming year.
In response, Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of launching these negotiation clusters, emphasizing that "it is absolutely realistic, alongside the negotiation process, to ensure Ukraine's gradual integration into the internal market of European power."
"In our agenda, we are also prioritizing NATO-related efforts. Securing NATO membership for Ukraine is essential for our survival. We are working at all levels to strengthen Ukraine’s position within the Euro-Atlantic community," Zelenskyy concluded.
